Policies
Enrollment
Eligibility
Children ages 18 months through five years old as of September 1st are eligible for enrollment in Christ Lutheran Day School. Exceptions may be made to meet individual needs.
Admission Policies
Christ Lutheran Day School is licensed by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services as a preschool for children. Christ Lutheran Day School does not discriminate against any child due to ethnic background, religion, sex, national origin, or color.
Upon receipt of a Registration Form, Parent/Preschool Consent Form, Medical Form and appropriate fees, a child will be enrolled in the program depending on any vacancies in the appropriate class according to age level and individual needs. Registration is held each February for families already enrolled in the program and parishioners. Open registration for new students will follow.
Welcome Families
Before the First Day
Prior to the first day of school, parents will receive a letter from the Director. The letter will contain information regarding dates of orientation, the first day of school and additional pertinent information.
Home Visits
Shortly before school begins, each child will receive a home visit from his/her teacher. This is an important meeting for your child and his/her teacher. The home visit allows the child to meet his/her teacher on his/her own turf. We believe it is especially important for children entering the school for the first time. The teacher will call to schedule a time that fits into your daily routine and is most appropriate for the child. Home visits generally last 15 – 30 minutes.
Orientation
Parent orientation will be held during an evening prior to the first day of school. At that time, parents will receive the Day School Policies & Procedures. The Director will go over the Day School’s policies and routines. Following the evening parent meeting, there will be a designated morning when parents are encouraged to bring their children to visit their classrooms before the first day.
Communicating with Families
Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held for all children enrolled in the preschool in the fall and again in the spring. At this time, parents and teachers can update one another on the child’s general progress and discuss any concerns that either might have.
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to schedule conferences with teachers any other time that they have questions or concerns about their child or our program. We do ask that you make an appointment after school or during the teacher’s planning period for conferences so that the teacher can devote her full time and attention to the children in her care during regular school hours.
Conferences with the Director are encouraged for any parent who desires one at any time during the school year as well. Appointments can be made by calling the Day School Office at (210) 822-7671.
Other Communication
The school will also communicate with families through e-mails, weekly class journals, daily notes (2’s), and the parent information board in our foyer.
Parent Participation
Parent involvement is greatly encouraged and always welcome at Christ Lutheran Day School. We encourage sharing cooking activities, storytelling, family traditions and holidays, etc.
We especially encourage family participation in our special celebrations, such as Open House, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Program, Rodeo Day, Grandparents’ Day, and Fiesta.
Parents organize our largest annual fundraiser, which includes a Silent Auction, Raffle, Kids’ Carnival, and Dinner.
Newsletter
The school newsletter will be sent home with your child monthly. This letter is devoted to school news and will keep you informed of upcoming dates and activities, classroom spotlights, and the Chapel calendar. It can also be downloaded from the home page in PDF format.
It is important that you read your newsletter!
Arrivals & Departures
Hours & Release Info
Day School doors (the doors at the back of the educational building on Castano Ave.) will be open at 8:35 a.m. each morning and re-locked at 8:55 a.m. Children can be dropped off at these times using our carpool system or may be walked in by their parents. Parents walking children into the building should park in the playground parking lot off of Primrose Place. If you arrive after 8:55 a.m., you should bring your child to the entrance by the Primrose parking lot. Please be aware that Chapel services begin at 9:00 a.m. each day. Parents should plan to sit at the back of the Chapel with their children, if they arrive after Chapel has begun. Please do not enter the Chapel during the prayer.
Children must be delivered to the custody of a Day School staff member when they arrive at school. A staff member must also be notified when you pick up your child from school before dismissal.
Your child will be released only to a parent or person named by the parent. The Day School Office must be notified in writing when a child is to be picked up by someone other than the parent or legal guardian. This does not include carpool drivers. The driver’s license of anyone authorized to pick up your child should be on file with the school. Even with written notification, we cannot release your child, if we are unable to identify the person picking up your child.
Late Charges***
Children should be picked up by 12:00 p.m. for regular dismissal; by 2:00 p.m. for Full Day Pre-K, Enrichment, and Friday 2’s; or by their reserved Extended Day hour. At 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. dismissals, a late charge of $5.00 for each 5 minutes thereafter will be assessed.
Carpools
Please display your carpool name in the passenger window of your vehicle when picking up your child/children.
Names, Driver’s License numbers, and daytime phone numbers must be on file for all carpool drivers. If your carpool has more than one driver, please let us know your daily driver schedule. Please notify the school of any carpool changes or if someone other than the scheduled carpool driver will be picking up your child.

Short-term reservations may also be made, as well as emergency drop-in requests, for your convenience. However, space is limited and subject to availability in order for us to maintain the appropriate child/staff ratio. Please make requests no later than the day before, if possible.
The hours for our Extended Day program are 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Reservations are taken for full-hour periods only. No quarter or half hours, please. Fees are charged by the hour.

Standing reservations for the month must be paid in full the first day of the reservation. Short-term or drop-in reservations should be paid before the child stays for Extended Day. You may send the payment with your child on the day he/she stays for Extended Day. Any unpaid ext. day hours at the end of any given month will incur a $10 billing fee. Credit will be given for an unused reservation due to illness only. The credit may be used for another ext. day of your choice. Transfers of reservations to other students will not be allowed.
When staying for ext. day until 1:00 p.m., your child will need a nutritious lunch. When staying for ext. day past 1:00 p.m., your child may bring a pillow, blanket, and security item (if necessary) to sleep/rest with on his/her mat. Mark all items with your child’s name.
